Still life painting for me requires a different mindset from landscape work because instead of responding to what is already present, I have to curate shapes and colors from objects that I have on hand to make compelling subject matter. Since it is less susceptible to changes, I can work on it at a much calmer pace, rather than try to capture it all in one on-site session.
